2021 Waitin' Indiegogo Campaign
"We need your help, Hypos fam! In large part due to the fact that we haven't been touring and playing shows over the past year, it's going to be very tough to make our album happen without the assistance of you lovely humans.
But it’s happening. We are heading into the studio AS WE SPEAK, and if you don't already know...The cost of recording an album is massive, from studio time, to mastering, graphic design and album artwork, publishing, marketing, website design, pressing to vinyl, and of course the impending tour (yep, you heard that right, we're coming for you world!!!).
We could not have gotten anywhere without our fans, and we would like to acknowledge our gratitude to you for all of your support, past, present and future.
By donating, you’re directly helping this album come to life. We also want to make sure YOU get something as well for helping out. Check out the campaign right here! If you can't donate financially/pre-order the album/merch/book a show, please help us out by sharing this campaign with your friends!
CBC's Toyota SeachLight Contest 2021
For anyone unfamiliar, CBC holds a contest every year- the Toyota SeachLight contest. Artists all across Canada enter with a song of their own, and then it's up to the public to vote for their favourite. The contest holds some very cool and valuable prizes for the winners. The Hypochondriacs decided to enter this year with a demo version of their song "Cheated". This version on their YouTube page is a little taste of the new album "Waiting'". The first round of voting began on May 11th, and the band was overwhelmed with the response. Thanks to their fans/friends/families who took the time to vote every day, the band moved on to the Top 100 round on June 2nd! This itself was meaningful to the band, and it's all thanks to the people who took the time to vote every day!
CBC's The Story & The Song
At the beginning of 2021, just as we were all approaching a full year of weirdness, CBC approached The Hypochondriacs with their project "The Story & The Song". The project involves giving the bands a month to write a song using the theme given. Based on the events of the prior year, The Hypochondriacs were given the theme of "isolation". With everyone stuck in their homes, many people could relate and did relate to a relationship with alcohol that may not have been so friendly after a while. The song the band produced had to do with being alone and recognizing that you're drinking a lot, but with everything going on in the world (or not going on), you try and justify it. There is a darker and relatable truth to the isolation we all experienced, which led to the song "Until I Get Used To Being Alone". On March 17th, CBC debuted the song along with the story behind it on CBC Radio One. The band went back to their roots, with a classic old country sound for the version recorded for CBC. The song will be included on their upcoming album, with a different spin on it!
Into The Studio - Outreach Productions Bell TV1 Episode
In April of 2021, The Hypochondriacs headed into Outreach Productions Studio to film an episode for a series on Bell TV1 called "Into The Studio". The series is a behind the curtain look at the world of music production, the process of recording a song and so on. The band recorded their song "Waitin'", which will be the single off the new upcoming album. The episode demonstrates how the band approaches recording and how they work in the studio. Members of the band also speak about their experience with recording, their adjustment to the studio versus a live setting etc. Stay tuned for more information such as a release date of the episode!
